Bob,

The rudder blade is pretty stiff.  However, you might try this:

Set the rudder blade between saw horses with the curved side up.  Set a straight edge down the length of the rudder blade.  Measure the maximum draft between the straight edge and the rudder blade.  Draft is the perpendicular distance between the straight edge and the rudder blade at any given point.  Flip the rudder blade over and, using some sort of strap to wrap around the rudder blade at the point of maximum draft, add load beneath the rudder blade until the rudder blade straightens out.  It might require a couple hundred lbs.  Note: If you hear cracking; then, stop!  Allow the rudder blade to sit loaded up like this for several weeks.  Then, unload it and remeasure the maximum draft.  Note: This procedure is more likely to work if you can do it in a warm place, say > 70 deg F.

Stan changed the designs of the centerboard and rudder blade.  So, if you have a 1976 boat, your rudder blade is going to be thinner vs a newer boat.  Stan claims the new rudder and centerboard offer better performance vs the older parts.  But, that claim flies in the face of hydrofoil theory, so I’m a little sceptical.  I’d love to see an old vs new boat match race.

Bob, I may have misunderstood something.  Did your boat come with a bent rudder blade or did you notice the bend recently after the boat was sitting on the trailer.  In the picture, it looks like the boat has sunk into the ground loading up the rudder blade.
