Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Resolution of water leaks
Hi all,
I just wanted to give an update regarding my previous emails about rainwater
finding its way into the bilge, and a leaking inspection hatch (or anchor
hatch) at the bow. The situation has vastly improved thanks to a few changes
I made!
As a reminder, my boat is sitting on its trailer, but I was pumping a few
gallons of water from the bilge every 3-4 weeks. It turns out the culprits
were the drains in cockpit (water would go through the holes, then "ramp"
under the cockpit seats and eventually drip onto the cabin sole) and the
support that is used to make a bed in the cockpit (the front one, which is
screwed right below the companionway). Attaching a picture that shows both
things.

The other water leak was at the bow, with the hatch that was cracked and no
longer sealed. I covered it up with waterproof tape : the leak has
completely stopped, and I no longer have condensation in the v-berth. I
purchased a solar vent as per Mary-Lou's suggestion and it fits right in.
I've only done a dry fit so far as I want to put some epoxy to protect the
plywood and it's too cold to do so these days. I used a router today to make
a groove where the epoxy will go. The plywood is mostly dry but there's a
side where it's wet. Not delaminated but it needs to dry before I can put
epoxy. Attaching a couple of pictures of the work in progress.

Today, I found another leak. It's pretty minor but I will look at fixing it
anyway. I need to re-bed the black "rail" that holds the hatch. Water finds
its way along one of the screw, and drips from ceiling of the cabin onto the
galley.

Lots of fun :)
