[Rhodes22-list] boom hitting back stays

I'm leaning towards the boom being too high too. With the pop top up, how much clearance is there between the boom and the pop top? Should be very little. The boom can be raised and lowered. Is there a pin at the gooseneck that can be pulled and the boom lowered? There should be a couple of holes where the pin and reside in as the boom moves up and down. Maybe drop it down and see if the boom clears the backstays. - rob

Jessie,

OK, one quick remark regarding the way your backstay adjuster is rigged ... The lines between the blocks should not crisscross like they are in the photo. The lines should run fairly thru the blocks without crossing over each other. But, even with the way the tackle is rigged, you have the backstays under sufficient tension. So, loose backstays are not the problem.

Similarly, the side elevation shots show the angle of the mast rake is ~ correct. So, this is not what is causing the boom to hit the backstays. Therefore, you do not need to shorten the forestay.

To my eye, your boom looks like it is riding too high on the mast. If you could lower the boom by a couple of inches, that would eliminate the boom/backstay interference.

Other than that, I don’t have any other suggestions.
