For combo salt/fresh/brackish sailing I have used ablative as a better choice for DIY bottom maintenance and eventual repainting,  Also, check this on your boat. I discovered when I did the bottom of my '86 that a barrier coat had NEVER been put under the anti-fouling.  An excellent opportunity for blistering!  I had it taken down to the base surface and coated 2x barrier and 6x ablative.  The ablative will wear down and can be recoated by you sans boatyard.  Military veterans should know the 5 p's, it does apply. I suspect any of our skippers have their boat bottom checked for the barrier coat. I am certain that others will find the same as I did.
