 Hi Mary Lou,
Thanks for the response and the link. Unfortunately the part that broke is molded into the portlight body. If that part is even available it will likely cost most of the cost of a new portlight and will necessitate all the work of a new install. Ultimately that's where this will probably lead, but being a cheapskate I'll exhaust the other possibilities first. Fortunately there are two mounting screws immediately adjacent to the dog assembly that can be drafted into service as mounting points for some printed parts which I hope will serve the needed purpose.
Upon reflection my guess is that the gaskets are shot and that the dogs have been over tightened trying to seal the opening to the point that the plastic simply gave up and broke. My hope is that replacing the gaskets will set things right.

Thanks again,
 Peter

Beckson has (or I should say had as I haven't looked lately) lots of
replacement parts for their ports. If the body of the port is sound, I'd
look for those. I think Defender and SailboatOwners.com have them and
who knows who else.

I'm guessing these are original to the boat and that nearly 40 years of uv has taken its toll.  Attached are some photos of the 1st portlight failure and version 2.0 of the fix
