PBR,
Removing the centerboard from inside by removing the trunk cap is the only
way to paint the entire centerboard and trunk slot.
But that is no easy task, as there are a lot of SS ¼-20 bolts with washers
and nuts holding the cover down.
I pulled mine put that way to address a crack in the trunk cover and to
replace the c/b pennant line as well as to reconfigure and reinforce the
block mountings on the c/b. That allowed me to paint the entire c/b and
inside the trunk slot. I painted the entire c/b, both sides at once, by
hanging it from a rafter in my garage. Other times, I have just blocked the
boat and painted as much of the c/b and trunk as I could from below.
The exception to this is if your boat is older; maybe 1975 or earlier, the
c/b comes out from the bottom and there is no trunk cap in the cabin to
remove.
