I found this article on the net. If you don't travel
it seems easy to find a provider that does a good job
in your area but if you fly to a different city every
other day it gets a bit more difficult. My wife wants
to keep Sprint because of the cheap nights and weekend
long distance. She's found a corner on the second
floor of the house that you can stand on one foot,
touch your nose, and point west, or something like
that, and the phone works great. I personally have
found my Sprint PCS phone to be a great paperweight.
It looks like we're getting two different providers.
I'm strongly leaning to Verizon.

In an article that Verizon Wireless gloated about and
competing carriers denounced, The Wall Street Journal
rated the best and worst providers of long-distance
and wireless phone service.

After testing the services and studying data from the
Federal Communications Commission, state public
utility commissions and analysts, the Journal selected
Verizon Wireless as the best cell-phone service
provider.

"You pay for what you get," the article read. "At 14.3
cents a minute, Verizon is the most expensive wireless
carrier. But it also has the strongest nationwide
network, a lower complaint rate and the strongest
customer service of anyone in our tests."

Sprint PCS received the lowest marks for most
complaints per subscriber and for adding new fees and
restrictions on its service.

While T-Mobile, the carrier that hired Catherine
Zeta-Jones to star in its TV ads, boasts the cheapest
service -- 8.2 cents per minute -- it also has a high
incidence of dropped calls and one of the highest
customer complaint rates.

Even though AT&T Wireless was rated "less bad," with
competitive nationwide service and calling plans, it
was also singled out for adding new fees.

Like Verizon, Cingular Wireless received high marks
for its comprehensive nationwide coverage, but it also
has many outstanding customer complaints, particularly
in California, where it's under investigation by the
state PUC. The zinger for Cingular was unexpected
roaming charges.
