Brad,

I have traveled exstensively throughout TN and adjoining states for the last 
10+ years. My employers have always paid my bill so I tried to choose the 
plan that had the best coverage rather than best price. I am in sales and I 
hate doing business with a poor connection. I have had damn near all of 
them; ATT, Srint, GTE, US Cellular, and Verizon. East TN and KY are so hilly 
reception is bad every where outside major cities or interstates for 
everybody. This was true ten years ago, still true today, although it is a 
little better. I haven't been down river to your area so I can't comment on 
who has best service. If you consider all of TN Verizon is probably best. 
Unfortunately they suck for AR. I am roaming when in Little Rock inspite of 
my "national coverage plan".

Regarding towers on TVA land; they are starting to appear around here as 
well but again only near TVA property near big cities or interstate. 
Something about that suplly and demand thing. I sail my Bantam near home 
(Knox County) and coverage is great. Out at Watts Bar 60 miles away the 
signal is spotty. I had visions of sitting on my boat with a wireless 
internet connection and "working". This can only happen if I want to cruise 
29 miles upriver to the middle section of Watts Bar. This is a good things 
because it saves me the hassle of bringing the laptop when I go to my boat 
to conduct business. Also with recent reports of Laptop Crotch Burn...well I 
wouldn't go there.

I figure in another few years the towers will work there way up and down the 
river further. Heck I finally got a cable modem this year, those in the city 
have had for two years.

Just part of living in a hick state...
