In my slip traditonal fenders work well. I have a floating dock and the rub
line is just above the water line. If you need rub rail protection the over
the gunnel type work well but for my use they would be too high. Getting
larger size is a good idea.
I do use L shaped fenders for my 14 ft. Bantam but it sits low in the water
and needs protection for wooden rail.
