[Rhodes22-list] I'm Back

Rik,
Julie and I just won second place for the year in our class (offshore) at
our local regatta - we have IMF and the 175% genoa, too.
The best part (for me, anyway) was that we managed to finally beat our
friend in his Catalina 22 across the line. That alone would have made the
season for me - he's taken home the overall regatta first place twice, and
this was the first time we'd even come close to beating him in uncorrected
time. What a great feeling!
There were 8 other boats in our class - we went to the awards ceremony after
the last race (last Saturday) not expecting to win anything and ended up
bringing home a trophy.
Another pretty cool thing is, when we first started sailing in the regatta
four years ago, we were sailing Julie's 14' O'Day dinghy, so she was listed
as captain. We've seen no reason to change that over the years (even though
we take turns captaining and crewing). She's now the only current female
captain and only the second female captain in regatta history (the first
captained a sunfish in the first year of the regatta - 1987, I believe).
She's also the first to qualify for a trophy.
Mark Kaynor
