Roger: I love the English language. What something means to one person
means something completely different to another. Rummy boat and mine are
similar vintage. The ring on the outside of the boat is part of the port
light and there is a second "decorative" ring which goes on the inside to
dress up the interior.
Like Rummy, I found removing the ports to rebed them was an absolutely
miserable job. I spent about four hours on one and was completely exhausted
when I was finished. It took a rubber mallet, a board with a buffer between
the board and the plastic port and considerable pounding to break it free.
While I am not going to argue that a heavy sea could break one the the ports
down, if the seas were strong enough to break out the port, I would be
worried about many other things by that time.
Obviously there is a big difference between a boat from the mid '80's and
from from the '70's.
Cheers, Bob on the "NoKaOi"
