Check to make sure that the cockpit drains - in the seats as well as the
cockpit floor, are clear.
Is your boat a fresh water boat? If so, is there any way for you to tell
whether it is rain water or from the lake or river?

Martin:
Rummy has given you one place to look. I had a small problem on
my boat where the previous owner drilled two drain holes at the cabin
end of the seats and water would siphon along an edge over the bulkhead
between the cabin and the cockpit and put water in my bilge. After I
eliminated the centerboard gasket and chain plate fittings, I happen to
be in the cabin during a heavy rain and heard a drip, drip. So there are
other ways for water to get in. You will have to make like Columbo.
Keep us informed on your progess. Where have you been sailing
all this time?

Hi. I am new to this list. With a problem. I have owned a Rhodes 22
for
six years, it is a 1986 boat, and I keeping getting about two inches of
water
in the bilge. I pick up the wooden floor panel and pump it out but it
comes in
again. Where is it coming from? Also, I noticed just the other day
that
when I sail and heel over more water is somehow getting in to the
bilge, even a
few millimeters above the floor. Again, any ideas where the water is
coming
from? Is it possibly coming in on the toilet out line, which is at the
water
level. Finally, does it matter if I have water in the bilge as long as
it
doesn't overflow. The wooden floor sometimes gets damp. Can it rot?
Sorry there
are so many questions. I love the boat, but would appreciate any
advice.
Martin
