[Rhodes22-list] big problem

I was putting carpeting on my bunk boards this past weekend. While under the trailer stapling the carpeting to the inside and underside of the boards, I found what looks to be a huge blister under the old paint.
I scraped the old dried out paint off and what I found did not look good. It appears to be an old blister which broke and took a chunk of the gelcoat with it. The gelcoat layer has delaminated over an area about 1 1/2" in diameter with cracks radiating out from the hole 3/4" or so. I hope the damage is only surface and/or can be repaired from the outside, because the hole is below the concrete under the stepped ares aft of the v-berth.
Apparently the PO did not see it and painted right over it and must have sailed this way. There was paint inside on the laminate. I think the only good thing is that the boat has been on the trailer for 5+ years so it must be dry by now.
I was debating whether I was going to strip the old paint myself, or have the bottom re-done professionally. I guess this made the decision easy.
Hopefully pics will attach.
Todd
