[Rhodes22-list] Politics on the list.

Rik,

Good points. And I agree, for the most part.

For me, however, it's more of a signal-to-noise issue than it is about any
particular political (or whatever) viewpoint. I already have to deal with an
ever increasing amount of unsolicited email, and when the list contains way
more "noise" than "signal", I become tempted to sign off. My wife quit the
list shortly after joining because there was so much off-topic discussion.
I've been able to hang in here so far - heck, I even enjoy it sometimes, to
be perfectly honest. Nevertheless, my primary interest here is the exchange
of info about our boats, and when that's either lacking or getting drowned
in the noise, the list becomes less valuable to me.

To all on the Rhodes list,

We've all been here, done this, most of us more than once.

To those who would be the Topic Police, I would point you to the Rhodes List
Charter. Michael will probably post a link to it any minute now. When you
get
to the part where it says "any topics of interest to Rhodes sailors", you
will have found the key words. You can (and just might) say that I may be
out
of place here, being merely a former owner now, but most of the reason I
still hang out here is because this list doesn't have all of the stuffy boat
topic only related rules that are found on most lists. We actually get to do
something besides answer the same old boat questions over and over when we
come here. This makes this list much more interesting and fun to hang out
at,
than most.

I do agree with Rummy that it would be good to be careful that our posts are
not hurtful. But then again, Some people's feelings seem to get hurt overly
easily. Let's be real here, for every "Democrat" joke that's ever been
posted
here, there one just like it with "Republican" in the punch line. It's
politics, if you didn't laugh at it, you would surely have to cry. If you
are
going to take all this stuff seriously, you're in for a life full of hurt
feelings.
