[Rhodes22-list] Epoxy bottom

Thank you, Michael,

Interlux actually makes an epoxy with Teflon, but without any heavy metal
poison.  It's called VC Performance Epoxy - a two part very hard paint for
dry sailing only.  It didn't seem thin to me.  Two years ago I used it on my
Starwind and it turned out just great (see pic).  Very durable and fast.  I
thought perhaps some R22 folks might have tried it.  One downside to epoxy
is that it doesn't take UV very well - it can yellow and chalk.  So you have
to keep the sun off it - ok for bottoms though.

It doesn't make much sense to coat the bottoms of pleasure boats with poison
paints that ooze deadly slime, then later invite family and friends for a
swim within a few feet of the poison emitting source.  If that ablative ooze
is death to marine growth, what will it do to us?  However, if ablative
paint is proven FASTER, just might have to look into it a little more : )

I like the Interlux tech guys in NJ -- quite knowledgeable and helpful for
DIY guys like me.  For a boat manual, I trust those guys.  I was just trying
to get off politics and back to boats.
