Todd,

The traveler track on Dynamic Equilibrium is a piece of 1" Nom. OD X 0.902"
ID X 72" Long 316 SS tubing.  I believe this is the same traveler track
length as on every other R-22 because it is limited by the backstay
chainplate spacing on the transom.  The end caps are nothing more than two
pieces of 1-1/8" Nom. OD X 1.027" ID X 2" Long 316 SS tubing that have been
drilled to accept the backstay wires and the fast pins that secure the
traveler track to the end caps.  This is a standard size and wall thickness
SS tubing and should be available from any industrial metals &/or laboratory
supply dealer.  Industrial or laboratory grade tubing will not be
electropolished.  But, this is a simple geometry & would not take very long
to mechanically polish with a buffing wheel & polishing compounds.  I would
estimate about 30 minutes polishing time per piece to get a mirror bright
finish including setup and cleanup.

You might also consider going another route.  Look in the 2003 edition of
the West Marine Master Catalog on pp. 702.  You could use two of the Taylor
P/N 11730 stainless steel external eye ends sized to fit over the end of 1"
Nom. OD tubing.  You would have to drill out the threaded set screw hole in
order to accept the fast pin.  This method will have the advantage that the
end caps will be electropolished.  This geometry is not as theoretically
strong as GBI's original design using 1-1/8" Nom. OD tubing as end caps.  If
the Taylor eye end were overloaded in this application, the failure site
would be the joint between the round end cap and the tab that the backstay
wire will pass thru.  If it were overloaded, I would expect it to fail by
bending and torqueing at the joint until a crack opened up & the tab came
off.  I wouldn't expect this to happen suddenly, but rather over a long
period of time with repeated shock loading.  But, these are cast stainless
steel pieces, with radiused corners, electropolished (both radius & polish
reduce stress concentration sites), and massively oversized for this
application.  So, I don't think you will have any problems with deformation
under load.  This is a case of an inefficient design that succeeds by simple
brute force.

As long as the traveler is high enough to clear the tiller with comfort.  I
save almost every pic that is posted if I think I can get some future info
to help me with the restoration, especially now since I have 2 R22's to
restore.  I see from these pics that Roger's traveler is much higher and has
less travel.
