[Rhodes22-list] Slim's music

Todd,

When I started playing the trumpet as a little kid, my grandmother told me,
"A good trumpet player has got it made!" 8-) Tell your younger boy to keep
practicing. If your 13 year old sax player wants to make a lot of money,
may I suggest orthodontistry?

I've done very little in my life besides performing and teaching music. I
much prefer the former. That whole institutionalized, government employee,
public servant thing is just not for me. But hey, summers off? I gave it a
shot for a few years but got really tired of always having to defend music
curriculum to those who swing the budget ax. Teaching is surely a noble
profession--and it had better be! Despite the degrees and other hoops I had
to jump through to be a public school teacher, I still felt like I was at
the bottom of the food chain. And now, dare I say it? With the republicans
in charge, this is not a good time to be a teacher.
