Lou,
When I needed to find a surveyor in a distant land, I used web sites (NAMS,
and one other that escapes me at the moment) to identify some in the area,
then I got on the phone.
BTW, also agree on the survey cost in advance and make sure that the
resulting document is what you need (i.e., for insurance, etc.)

Lou,
You have a noted author and New York City resident within calling range.
Pick up your phone and call Bill Effros, a member of this list. Listen to
his advice.
You might try some or all of the following internet sites:

How is this for a start. Bye the way (BTW), you have not provided us with
the year and price. How do you expect us to give good and valid advice
without all the details? Are you afraid that the Great White Shark will
swoop in and beat you to the deal?

Jim
Much thanks I will look for the book today and be very careful.
How does one find a boat surveyor?
Although the owner is basically giving this boat away, I understand I
need to know what expenses i will incur to bring it up to standards
that I will feel safe and good about. That said, I know up front
this is a 'project boat' and would expect to have to invest serious cash to
overhaul it.
any one have leads on surveyors in the NYC metro area??
Thanks
Lou
