[Rhodes22-list] Lowering the Mast to the Stern

Phyllis,

You have to disconnect the forward lower shrouds to add the extensions and
the aft lowers too (if you don't have the mast bail).  I've found that I
can't remove the clevis pins if there's full tension on them, so they have
to be loosened.  You don't really have to loosen the upper shroud
turnbuckles to lower the mast.  But later, when you go to raise the mast,
it's easier to reconnect the upper shrouds  (or connect the mast to the
tabernacle if they're still connected) if they're loosened.  I never
disconnect the upper shrouds from their chain plates, but that makes it
harder to connect the mast to the tabernacle--so I loosen the turnbuckles.
If you disconnect the uppers, it'll be easy to connect the mast to the
tabernacle but then you might have a hard time connecting the uppers unless
they're loosened.  It's a horse a piece.

Thanks for mentioning that the boom has to be in the upper position for
lowering the mast.  Point noted.
