[Rhodes22-list] Joke: Dear Abby

You know, Jim, it's an amazing thing. Vile jokes about Bill Clinton were defended on this list by George Bush supporters with the same "It's just a joke--get over it" mentality. But now that these same jokes are told with Bush's name in the punch line they are not funny, and an attempt to divide the nation.
We had long discussions on this list about political jokes--I opposed them. The consensus was that any joke that is OK in a barroom is OK here.
It's just a joke. Get over it.
Bill
PS -- Seems to me Davy Crockett wasn't in Texas for very long before he got involved in a bonehead military situation waiting for reinforcements from Texas which never came, and met his untimely demise. Whether he rejoined his fellow Tennesseans in Hell is not recorded.

Gosh, we sure have descended into a pretty low place. I don't know if the
Texas references here are intentional, attempting to define the population
in a less-than average American manner, find no humor in this and simply
see it as a further attempt to divide a deeply divided nation. Was it you
who quoted Eldridge Cleaver (was he related to Theodore and Wally?): "if
you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem".....
