Roger,
Again, in today's world, I bet it had to do with age, sex, and race.
It is not the guy hiring but the personnel department telling the head
person that to keep out of litigation what they should do, especially if
federal funds are involved in loans or site development grants. It is not
who would do the best job. They can concoct a multitude of reasons all
seemly legal and justifiable to do things as long as it does not raise flags
to the feds or insurance carriers.
If MRI does not work out, throw away your resumes and open Roger's
Welding service in your backyard. Buy an old pickup, put a welding machine
in the back, and go to the jobs. You will gain real satisfaction from doing
the quality work you like to do. You may not become as rich as Stan, but
you will attain that same fellowship of achievement with him. You will have
that spirit that allows you to turn around and spit in their eye.
Ed K Greenville, SC, USA
Addendum: "The ability to persevere in the face of discouragement and
disappointment and the possession of courage to face strong opposition are
both qualities which mark successful leaders." Ordway Tead, The Art of
Leadership,1935.
