Michael,
In addition to Brad, several others have been in communication with
Roger. I think your first analysis is the right ballpark.
In my opinion, what Brad ran into, is related to what you summarized
and a few others have surmised back channel.
Let us all hope and pray for a positive outcome.

That was silly thing for him to do. Networking is one of the best way to get
a job(not to mention the commapny saves the 20-33%
headhunting fee, which can be the desiding factor). Sorry to hear that. Must
be the 20 years at DOW thing. I not above using the
temple, yatchclub and the "network" when looking. Sorry this happened you
