You can use "Mollys" . They come in diffent size and shank lengths for various material thickness.

Thanks guys but I tried just that last time.  I'm going to try to get a
little block of teakwood or something up under there.  Do you think it's
possible to reach it by taking out the drawer under the companionway step?
