No, what I have isn't considered a remote control because it's fixed to the end of the tiller ... but here's a question: when you're sitting behind the wheel, are you able to reach behind you and touch the railing?  If so, you'd be able to reach the tiller, because it stands upright just outside the railing.  But I'm not sure how far your steering pedestal is from the lazarette ...

The problem lies in the fact that I do have the
wheel..so I need to get the controls where I can reach
them while steering. 

 Is what you have considered a remote control?

A fellow at the marina today mentioned that he also
has a Mercury which he really likes. They are one
dealer that I will visit tomorrow...stay tuned...

I just need a good primer on outboards....gonna get it
tomorrow....
