[Rhodes22-list] Off season storage costs

I've seen Mary Lou and Rummy both refer to using bottles filled with sand or water as a means of securing a tarp. Never having done this before, I've been meaning to ask -- do you just let the weight of the bottles hold the tarp in place? If so, what's to prevent the tarp from shifting around even with the weight of the bottles? Or do you tie the lines around something before attaching the bottles?

Thanks,

I would agree. I've heard and read from different sources that the paint on painted boats is likely to blister at the places where the shrink wrap contacts the hull.

We do use a heavy tarp weighted with sand filled 2 liter soda bottles. Fred found some fasteners that fasten like a screw on soda cap but that have a hook on the other side specifically for this sort of use. He seems to remember he got them at a marine supply - I found them on the Internet at http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/browse.cfm/4,27682.htm but they are cheaper at West Marine (huh?)
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/93251/0/0/tarp/All_2/mode+matchallpartial/0/0
They seem to work well. We've always had the boat where we can check on it readily. This year it will be in the boatyard at the marina. We'll see how it goes there.
