Patrick,
First of all, congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the list.


I have a 1974 model so we have a similar set up.  On mine, there is wire
attached to the chainplates where the back stays attach.  See photo called
"traveler lower".  A bow shackle loops around the wire and attaches to a cam
cleat that controls the boom adjustment.  The bungee cords (more visible in
the "traveler middle" and "traveler top" photos) held my boom up and have
since been replaced by a topping lift.  My boat did not come rigged with a
topping lift so I added one and removed the bungee cords.  The traveler top
photo shows how I tighten the rear stays.  Can't say it's the best or
prettiest method, but it works.  I can take some better close up photos if
you need.  Don't claim this is the best set up, but it works.  Feel free to
ask any more on the Rhodes Continental, there are a couple of us out here.
