[Rhodes22-list] Engineers and Consultants (was Political:Off to Iraq)

I'm a computer consultant (job title is actually "Network Engineer"). I've got a bunch of certifications that go with it, so it's not just a "title". Three things I learned in this business:

1. Two (or more) fully qualified people can look at a problem, and come up with totally different, and totally conflicting, solutions; both of which are correct, viable, efficient, and make complete sense. In other words, even though diametrically opposed, neither is incorrect.

2. When those two (or more) offer up their totally correct and justified opinion to someone, one (or more) of the totally correct and justified opinions is going to be rejected.

3. Don't take it personally, don't get upset, cash your checks and get ready for the next client.

BLESS YOU HERB!  this goes way beyond the current debate
here - I see it on othe "sailing" lists.

When I hear phrases from either side that state others as
stupid, crazy ... I automatically (maybe it is an
instintive reaction for self presivation) tun out the
entire argument.  Perhaps because I worked as an engineer
for too many years, that the nonsense argument, non-logic,
and false logic just make them appear invalid in my eyes.

FWIW, I can see that even while sitting here all doped up
after getting a little oral surgey today.  I hope I spelled
everything well enough for you to find my point.

BTW, about the blessing ... I hope it's not toooo offensive
to the ultra PC folks out there.
