Mary Lou,
Thanks for your response. I think we have a harder time monitoring the
sails than you do, perhaps we’re bigger and not as agile (old age!), I don’t
know. I can, and do, crane around the back of the Bimini to look up to check
on things, but it’s not an easy position to hold - particularly in a choppy
sea or when a swell is running. Usually, I peer up to assess what’s going on,
duck back under the Bimini and make any adjustments, but then don’t check the
mainsail again because it’s not easy - it would be nice to routinely monitor
what's going on aloft. I hadn’t thought to look up from the front of the
Bimini, I’ll try it.
Seems to me that the “view aloft” issue is a fundamental difference between
powerboat and sailboat needs, I’m surprised that someone doesn’t make and
sell a suitable sailboat Bimini. This could turn into another project, I’d
rather just sail.
Our outhaul is at the end of our boom also, and it's sort of awkwardly
reachable, but our furling line is above the Bimini as I recall. My big problem
though is just monitoring what's going on. If there's an out/in-haul issue
I'm game to strike the Bimini if I have to.
I know what you mean about not sailing as much this summer - it’s really
been hot out there, even with the Bimini up. In fact it’s been hot everywhere
except the inside of air conditioned buildings and cars. We’ve had good wind on
the water though, I’ve been surprised.
Dave
