[Rhodes22-list] Genoa Question

I do not have experience with the 175, but I have a North Sails 150 on FF-2
furler, bought new from GB.
I would guess that winds in Salem/Beverly MA area are not frequently 20 kts,
but are often 12-15, except lately, when we have not seen 10 on any weekend
I have been able to get out.
Works fine for me in all conditions, but I don't race, and am seldom in a
hurry, since I am already where I want to be when I get to the boat.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Genoa Question
Ed,
Yes, I went south in early July, launched, retrieved and came back home.
All in about 36 hours. In between there was a lot of driving, launching in
100 degrees, and fortunately one of the dock hands in Punta Gorda was a
paramedic and knew how to care for a case of heat exhaustion. Too bad she
did not have a cure for stupidity because I would have taken a handful. No
pictures sorry to say, but wonderful memories...
To the List,
Now my genoa question - I have to replace my 175 genoa and am considering
going to a 150 because of the fact that we have pretty strong winds on the
coast (Savannah area) in the 15 - 20 knot range regularly and I am thinking
that a 150 will enable me to point better and reef less. Now we have to
reef whenever the wind hits 15 knots (depending upon point of sail and
degree of inebriation-more inebriated = less reefing!) Our first reef is
usually to drop the pop-top, but I am thinking that a 150 would enable us to
keep the full genny out longer which also helps to point better.
Anyone have any experience with the 175 vs. 150? The larger sail is great
on a lake, but the coast is a different story, I think. Also, anyone ever
get a luff pad on the genoa to improve sail shape?
I welcome your comments. Thanks,
Bob K
