Ben,

Never been there but it's on my "bucket list".  The Wright boys
patented the three axis of flight. No one really took much interest in
their accomplishments until WW1.  Someone got the bright idea of
mounting a machine gun in the front and promptly shot their wooden
propeller off - whoops!  The new and improved "fighter" had the gun
timed off the camshaft.
