It was said on this forum, "That, sir, is a strong argument for collective
bargaining in a capitalist economy. Sort of a socialist-capitalist amalgam
where everybody wins. Almost funny, wouldn't you say?"
I would it is sad that a mature American understands so little about
economics, bureaucracy and freedom.
The poster believes that a woman can be a little bit pregnant? Socialism is
a system that creates a bureaucracy. Sometime a bureaucrat can be honest,
but eventually a tyrant gets in. Joseph Stalin is a good example. As a
functionary he did his job, when he got his chance he was evil.
The poster has this thing about a basic medical benefits plan controlled by
the government. His argue is that it would be good to provide a floor of
basic care and there are other examples of the government already providing
benefits.
His argument belies that the example he reported on was cosmetic surgery,
not life threatening. I would agree that it would be nice for the young
lady to have corrective cosmetic surgery. I ask why the poster did not
berate the news paper for just reporting and not asking for a ‘sunshine
fund’ to pay for the surgery?
I also question the facts of the report. Cosmetic surgery of the type
describe can be done under conscious sedation at certain doctors offices.
Why didn’t the poster volunteer to find such a doctor willing to do the
procedure on an out patient basis. Surely, the complainer can do some
community service and not expect the government to do everything. From all
that the poster has said in the past, he is capable of organizing such a
project. And I believe he would feel good about himself to boot.
