To All:
A friend of mine, recently retired as editor of a news magazine here in
Washington, has started up a special-interest travel website called TravelBeat
<http://www.travelbeat.net/index.html)>(http://www.travelbeat.net/index.html
)

I've been writing the sailing
blog<http://www.travelbeat.net/sailing/index.html>for the site ever
since it started almost a year ago (
http://www.travelbeat.net/sailing/index.html).

As you will see if you explore the site, there is a wide range of interest
areas, and the postings are well-written. This is actually much more of a
travel "e-zine" (short articles with useful information and links) than it
is a typical "blog" (opinion and attitude).

Now that this site is up and running and has a track record, the original
stable of writers are cutting back their postings from weekly to monthly.
Guest writers are being solicited, both to keep the copy fresh and to
broaden the mix and style of contributions.

If any members of this list would like to submit a sailing article for
posting to this site, please contact either me (blakesbb at gmail.com) or the
owner of TravelBeat, David Rapp, at david.r.rapp at gmail.com

This is an excellent platform to showcase your
boat/travels/writing/photography. Things you need to know:

   - The purpose of the site is to tell people about good places or events
to visit, basic information they need to know, and links to other websites
that will tell them more if they want to drill down. The focus is not "I
went here," but rather "Why you should want to go here, and what you need to
   know about it."
   - Posts are short: 1-1.5 pgs. typed worth of text, with 3-4 or so photos.
All photos must be credited, and must be your own, or in the public domain
(Wikimedia), or have permission for use. Videos can also be posted.
   - There's no money offered: These would be voluntary submissions without
   pay.
   - You will be edited. Dave ran one of the larger newsrooms here in DC,
with upwards of 100 reporters, and is well-practiced at helping to focus and
   tighten copy.

I have found these posts to be fun, and I'm proud of the website we've
built. If you'd like to contribute, or have questions, let us know.
