[Rhodes22-list] Obama's Magic

I came from a place where I have built my personal philosophy around my
personal pursuit of happines. You are what you make yourself to be. You work
hard. You live the American dream. You plan for economic freedom. Yes, get
rich so you can help others, your family, Jimmy Carter in his Habitat for
Humanity, Red Cross, etc.. America is and will continue to be the land of
the opportunity. 

My family immigrated here in 1969 (Apollo 11, Amazing Mets, etc.) and have
now been a US citizen since 1984. What I don't understand is how so many
Americans are delighted by the social policies of Obama. It was unbelievable
to me that he has gotten the rally from all walks of life to support the
judgement of what is rich and not rich and when its reasonable to give more
in taxes in the name of patriotism and fairness. People are where they are
because of their decisions. When people make bad decisions, they ought to be
the ones to suffer the consequences. None of this shared suffering or as
Obama wealth sharing that's outright wrong. The progressive tax system as it
is wrong. I bought first condo in 1987, 20% down, no late payments for
nearly 10 years, turn rental unit 2 years later. But I suffered over $50k in
losses for being upside down, the property was valued 30% less than the
mortgage amount and I ended up having to negotiate to give the property back
to the lender 10 years later.

I want my land of opportunity. I want to keep it. I want a government that
creates opportunities to hard working people. A gov that supports getting
rich. A gov that leaves up to you and me as to how we care for the poor and
the hungry through our own altruistism. I have mixed feelings about McCain
but am deathly afraid of Obama and what this country can turn out to not be
if he is in office.
