I like that story. There's never any harm in letting your daughters'
courters think you're crazy, if just as a thought in the back of their mind.
My good buddy Sharples -- he rode with me to Edenton to pick up Velvet Elvis
after her post-Katrina refit -- just had a daughter last year, and I fear
for her future boyfriends. He is a legitimate nutcase.

My kids were brought up "giving back from the receiving end", it was one
of the things that made brining up 4 girls fun!!
They still sit around at family gatherings reminiscing over some of the
gags.
I think I told the story about the body in Lake Lewisville once, but
it's worth repeating.
I had my wife, my youngest with her husband, and one of the middle
daughters with her new boyfriend all on a night sail with me. We were
just shooting the breeze while sailing to the end of the lake and back,
and the talk turned to the fact that a body on nearby Lake Lewisville
had been found wrapped in chains.
I made a comment to the effect of "That's bad. You know, if you wrap
those bodies up right, they never come back up to mess with your family".
Everyone laughed except the new boyfriend. They laughed harder when they
noticed he wasn't laughing. Then my middle one said "That's just my dad,
don't worry about him".
I, of course, barely smiled (it's part of the effect).
I haven't seen the guy in a long time - but trust me, he's not on the
bottom of a lake anywhere...
Trust me.
