Slim, The term de-core is literal....you remove the internal core line(s)
leaving the external braid. This sounds like a good solution to your
problem.You wouldn't need to buy new smaller line.

 Using a fid you carefully open up a small hole in the braid exposing the
core 15 feet from furler end. Carefully cut the core then remove.. Be
careful you don't damage the external braid.
