I believe you wrote this in the present tense implying the event happening
in the present.

I asked Do you think it would be a bipartisan effort or would one side
attempt to
 gain credit for stopping such a threat to our way of life?

Could you please rephrase your reply to allow for this? I'm more concerned
how you would reply in
the here and now considering how subversive the thought of "share your
wealth" is today.
