Hi Dan,
I don't think there is an obvious answer to this question. We've done
it. We didn't like it. It's much easier with the boat on the trailer
than in the water.

There are harnesses meant for lifting outboards from a dinghy onto a
larger boat. If you have some sort of gin pole or davit available,
even a davit on a larger boat it might work. What ever you do make
sure all parts are able to lift more than your load.
