[Rhodes22-list] All They Are Commanding - Is Give Peace a Chance - Political

Let's all hold hands and sing KumBaYa. HR 808 is on it's way.

The (possible) coming filibuster-proof all Democratic administration has
two plans.

1) Cut our defense spending by 25%, while we're at war. Of course, that
will ensure a failed effort, and they can point back at Bush and say it
was all his fault, while they walk on the graves of the brave men and
women who died in the effort. But hey, it'll be a great political coup
for them, right? Surrender the war, cut the expense, and have the
ability to say "Tole you so" all at the same time.

But that's alright boys and girls, because we have a New Plan, totally
indicative of what's to come from these flower-child-era dolts who never
grew up. Which brings us to

2) HR 808, the *Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act.* Seriously, I
couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. We're going to legislate a
department that will reduce violence and give peace a chance. But don't
worry, it's the gubment, how could they screw it up?

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.808:

This is almost like a jobs program all on it's own. First, we'll have
all these neat new governmental offices:
DEPARTMENT OF PEACE AND NONVIOLENCE.
OFFICE OF PEACE EDUCATION AND TRAINING.
OFFICE OF DOMESTIC PEACE ACTIVITIES.
OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PEACE ACTIVITIES.
OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY FOR PEACE.
OFFICE OF ARMS CONTROL AND DISARMAMENT.
OFFICE OF PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE AND NONVIOLENT CONFLICT RESOLUTION
OFFICE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND ECONOMIC RIGHTS.
INTERGOVERNMENTAL ADVISORY COUNCIL ON PEACE AND NONVIOLENCE.

And all these governmental jobs to support the offices:

Assistant Secretary for Peace Education and Training;
Assistant Secretary for Domestic Peace Activities;
Assistant Secretary for International Peace Activities;
Assistant Secretary for Technology for Peace;
Assistant Secretary for Arms Control and Disarmament;
Assistant Secretary for Peaceful Coexistence and Nonviolent Conflict
Resolution;
Assistant Secretary for Human and Economic Rights; and
General Counsel.

And all this will be paid for by no less than 2% of the total defense
budget.

I hear rumors that if it passes, they're going to rent a big field in
upstate New York. Max Yasgur's no longer with us, but I hear the farm's
up for sale.

Further rumors are that narcotic laws would be at least temporarily
suspended. Who knows, maybe President Clinton will actually inhale.

It's bound to be a groovy

Hey, with a demonstrable willingness to surrender, and "Peace and
Nonviolence" the law of the land, how could peace NOT have a chance?
