It's a royal PITA.  A socket wrench helps hold the nut underneath, but unless you have a very small one, even that might not fit up under the lip once you get toward the stern.  I didn't have a second person, so I was hunched over it for the better part of a day.  That's no exaggeration.

Rik,
It takes really small hands and a second person. I recommend using an  
electric driver or you will be spending the better part of a day installing all  of 
them. I have never seen screws used on the trunk cap.
