Anyone that has a website can place a link to the page as long as that site is given credit and it does not appear to be your own content.  You can also ask assuming he may keep it active to exchange links.  Both sites then would benefit from the extra traffic.  Just a thought.

Cowie, I've sailed across Lake Huron from Rogers City Mi, to Tobermoray
Ontario many times in sailboats from 27' to 40'. Many times there's
little wind. Sometimes you could only see the top of the mast of the
boat next to you. The Rhodes is a seaworthy boat and it could be fun but
for a sure thing you could trailer to Tobermoray, launch there and sail
the north channel of Lake Huron where you can see the bottom at 50 feet,
anchor in coves among granite islands with wild blueberries, fish for
40" pike, breath the fresh air of mixed pine and white birch forests,
watch moon lit clouds burst over the hilly ridges at night, listen to
loons in the evening, perhaps see an occasional black bear and swim and
bathe in the cool water. This adds to the years of your life.   Richard

John,

Thanks for looking into it.  It appears to be a great collection of R22
stuff and would be a terrible loss if it just disappeared.  It was from
before my time on "da list" so I cannot offer any help as to who put it
together.

Any comments MJM or Rummy?

You may want to grab it because I think I just read that Geocities was
shutting down pretty soon.  Be nice if you could FTP all the files to
one
location and then work on it from there at leisure.

Yes you can :-) Ask asked him a number of year ago if we could copy the
site
and use it on Rhodes22.org because he was not updating it any more(I
think
he sold the boat), got permission, I started creating a wiki out of
it(since
lost), but could not get Ed/Bill to keep it going. I still think the
best
bet would be to wget the pages and cut them into a wiki so it can be
update
by anyone on the list and keep it living. Just remember John "no good
deed
will go unpunished". :-)

Yes, it is technically possible.  However, that material is all owned
by whoever put it together, so it is copyrighted.  I can't just lift
it and make a copy.  I don't know if the people listed on that site
are even still around, the geocities account for the developer no
longer exists. But I can send off some e-mail to see if I get a
response.

Cheers!

Thanks for the history.  If permission was already obtained, then I
will see what I can do.  The wiki approach is good and one that I
would support.  Even if we don't get any more updates, it will still
be archived in a safe place.  But I'll bet there are plenty of new
facts that can be added and old ones amended.

Stay tuned for future developments...

Cheers!

FTP is not likely without the access codes.  But wget or httrack will
do nicely off our server.

Each summer Seattle gets a bit of a pirate thing going and has a
summer celebration on the water, beginning with Fleet Week and ending
with a weekend of performances by the US Navy's Blue Angels.  In the
middle of all this is a melee of boats in the highest-boats-per-capita
city in the country watching hydro races and generally getting
despicably drunk.  The attached shows a picture from the shore of an
awesome fly-by that a camera can't do justice to and the log boom off
in the distance.

It's a great experience, and if your summer plans ever allow for it
it's a great time to visit Seattle.

John & MJM,

Thanks for looking out for "da list."

John, let me know if you are successful with httrack from your IP.  If
geocities starts to limit or complain, I can pick up some of the files
from
another IP and subsequently give you access to the files on one of my
servers.

Once we have the content and a plan for integration into
www.Rhodes22.org, I
will make time to help reformat the material, if needed.

Chris,

This is a picture of my panel area.  The voltmeter toggle is on the DC
panel labeled charger.  I do not have the 30 amp switch that you have.
Judging by the size of it I would think it is a reset switch rather than
a true breaker. I will probably install a full panel with two 15 amp
breakers, one 20 amp and a dipole 30 amp main. This will take car of
both my GFI outlets and I'll have a spare for when I install my charging
unit. This is the setup that Casey recommends. Thanks for the
information you supplied.

Thanks Mike!  No problems pulling a copy of the blew_skies website.
We should be OK on that front.

Reformatting the content... that's another story.  It's a lot of
really old code  arranged in hundreds of HTML files.  Given a little
time I can probably automate some conversion.  "Convert into what?"
you may ask...  Well, a wiki program would be ideal.  MediaWiki is
free and is also the engine behind Wikipedia.  Uses standard PHP/MySQL
platform, so we should be good to go.  Converting the existing HTML
pages into MySQL data elements will be a "fun" project.  There is an
XML format described for importing to MediaWiki.  A lot of text
manipulation may give me what I need to do a straight import.  More
research is required and I will appreciate any help once I know what
the tasks will be!

Cheers!

Ed and John,
Cracks in the ballast may or may not be a problem. I would explore
further
on the outside of the centerboard trunk looking for any cracks in the
glass
or  delamination. I would use something to tap on the hull looking for
voids which  will make a much different sound.
If the boat is a northern boat (you didn't say where it was located) it

might be an indication of frost freeze cycles. OR, it could be nothing
at all.
If you have a friend or know someone that knows a lot about boats, you
might ask  for help. Also, depending where you and the boat are located,
you
might get a  local Rhodie to help with the inspection.

Hi  Ed,

The boat you're looking at may or may not be repairable depending  on
the
type and extent of the damage. Does the boat currently float? As  always
pictures can help in damage assesment.

Glad ta meet  ya!

I always access the Rhodes 22 forum from nabble.com.  the rhodes22.org
that
includes a link to geocities.com appears to be pretty out of date
information, without recent updates.  I like the graphic format of
rhodes22.com and geocities however I realize these take time and
commitment
from volunteers to keep up to date.  I have a small architectural firm
and
we publish many of our graphic presentations on hosted web pages.   I
think
my guys use flash to prepare the computer graphics.  Let me know if we
can
be of any help or assistance in keeping any of the rhodes sites up to
date.

Maybe it would be simpler just do a "cut and paste special" into a wiki
based on the top of the current tree, I take a section if that helps.

Cheers!

I also use the nabble interface, mostly for searches, since the
"advanced
search" format is quick and easy.  Please note that nabble was not on
the
distribution list for "da list" in the early days so searches for
material
prior to '05 or so must be performed by google using "site:rhodes22.org"
as
a search modifier (in the search box, without the quotes.)  Even so,
without
importing the blew_skies content, searches of even rhodes22.org may not
turn
up all relevant info.

Mary Lou:

Thank you for the link to Roger's account.  I enjoyed reading his story.
I
agree with Al that the Rhodes 22 is probably better suited for Lake
Charlevoix rather than the extreme weather that can be encountered on
Lake
Michigan.

I notice that Roger notes the bildge had about 5 gallons of water mostly
from his neglect to close the vent on his fresh water tank.  Is this a
common practice, to close the fresh water vent?  I think my holding tank
and
fresh water tank both vent to the outside so this shouldn't be a
problem?
Maybe Roger has a different set up?

Jim:

Stan provided the same stove, single burner bright spark, model BS 100
on my
new R22 2009.  I purchased a disposable butane canister from West
Marine,
link below, and it works fine.  $5.99 each.  The canister engages with
the
lever and the burner grill will not properly seat unless the canister is
disengaged after use, nice safety feature to make sure gas doesn't leak
out
between uses.  The stove burner works great and heats up water much
faster
than typical gas flame.

Ron:

I agree that the switch I have is probably just a reset.  I see that you
have a voltmeter.  I have been looking at the xantrex linkLITE meter,
kind
of pricey but has some nice features.  $349 at west marine.  Let me know
if
you install the charger and how it goes.

Michael:

Thanks for the info.  So do you log onto nabble.com in order to view
forum
discussions and then use google advanced search with site:rhodes22.org
as
the site to search?
