[Rhodes22-list] Cockpit Drain

They go straight through from the cockpit floor through a short (a foot or
so) hose and out a fitting in the bottom (hull). The entire path may be
observed from the lazarette looking forward (just stick your head into the
hatch and look between your knees while kneeling on the cockpit floor.) I
use a wooden dowel from the onboard mop (3 wooden pieces that screw
together.) Just be careful that the "pole" is centered and does not strike
the sides of the through-hull fitting since it is only plastic (an may be
brittle, depending on it's age.)

Also, be prepared for the hull fitting to leak if the ice has deformed the
seal. The large nut on the inside may be tightened (by hand or carefully
with a large wrench) to snug up the seal but be careful with the torque,
particularly if the fitting is old - it could fracture. Please note that
the laz will only fill with an inch or two of water if this does happen due
to the stern profile (except when sailing or in heavy weather.) Contrary to
other's advice, the boat doesn't sink, although the water is a pain in the
neck to deal with and you will need to haul to replace the fitting (voice of
experience speaking) unless you are comfortable with subfreezing scuba work
(dry suit.)
