OH MY STARS!

I just saw one of the mails and all my typos.  Just goes to prove

you shouldn't do anything when your tired.  I've been spending

alot of time on the militarymarina website.  I am surprised

so many people have viewed it.  Had 302 last sunday and its not

finished yet.    If anyone has boat items that they would like to sell,

I have a free classified section.  Also Stan,  I hope you get lots of

boat orders.   :)

I am looking into buying a Rhodes 22.  I am relatively new to the list.
Can some of you who actually trailer your 22 give me some insight into
using the boat as a camper while en route to your sailing destination?

I have read some comments about finding the "sweet spot" on the single
axle trailer to have adequate tongue weight and avoid fishtailing of the
trailer.  In this regard do any of you have experience with an anti-sway
bar on your trailer.  I pull a Coleman tent trailer and have an anti-sway
bar on this trailer.  It seems to suppress fishtailing.  Any comments
regarding this and a Rhodes 22?

Rich,

I have some experience trailering and pulling my single axel Triad Trailer
with my R-22 distances.  Yes, I have used my R-22 for sleeping purposes on
the road.  As far as fishtailing: regardless of whether you have an anti
sway bar or not you have to have at least 10% of the entire weight of the
trailer and boat as tongue weight.  The "sweet spot" merely is a guide to
that location of the boat on the trailer that assures you of the proper
distribution of weight.

Fair winds,

Rich
We have never used the Rhodes as a camper but have trailered it back
and forth from PA to MD (back when we lived in PA) and do a fair
amount of traveling with a travel trailer. As Ron said, you still
need adequate tongue weight. Once you get the tongue weight you don't
have the fishtailing.

The biggest barrier I can see to using it as a camper is that with
the mast on the bow and the crutch support for travelling you can't
raise the pop-top and that it is at least a 6 foot climb on and off
the boat. That said, it would certainly be doable. It just wouldn't
be as nice as staying on the boat when the boat is in the water. When
loaded properly the boat trailers wonderfully. We never felt the need
for an anti-sway device back when we towed distances with a Chevy
Blazer. We haven't towed it any distance with the current Nissan
Frontier pick-up but I would think it would be even better.

Hi  everyone,

I missed seeing the "walkthru" picture of the stern rail. Would someone
direct me to it.

I just replaced the IMF bottom bearing from the 1987 version to the
newer version with the bearing sleeves.  It is a great improvement.
Much easer to operate.

Thanks

Rick,

I never heard of Nixalite "Predator Eyes" until now.  I looked on the
website - you're right, it doesn't appear to be too scary.  I'll stick with
the real thing, Nixalite bird spikes, since they work so well.

I could not get the links to work so, after searching, I found it under
"Item:170357566839" on ebay.  Boat looks clean (no idea of year), non-IMF,
with new looking single axle trailer in Bessemer City, NC.

John,
What type of swim ladder did you end up with?  This one has a 6"
standoff, but is a bit pricey,

While this one is cheaper, but there is not much of a stand off.

John,
For some reason the link you included didn't work, but I found it
anyway.  Here's the link I found it under.

Looks like a furling jib but can't tell if it has IMF or not.  No motor
apparently.  It is a nice looking boat.  I'm going to email the guy with
a few questions. - rob

I  use this one -

The 11" hook size is perfect for the R22 gunwales.  Fits snugly and
doesn't flop around.

Probly so... but I don't have bimini.  However, if I did, I suspect
the bimini frame (folded) might provide the extra handhold to help get
over the side.  Not sure the tubing would like that much but it's
something I'll try in the future.

Looks like it's time for a reminder about long URLs on the list.  As
you have noticed, the list software tends to wrap all text, which
breaks up long URLs.  To avoid the problem, use www.tinyurl.com.  Copy/
paste your long URL into this free service and then use the resulting
"Tiny URL" in your e-mail to the list.

For example, the tiny URL for that Ebay listing is -

http://tinyurl.com/oa64q3

Welcome Rich,
?
I have a double axle trailer, and have trailered my boat for the plant in NC to WA on the west coast, and for most of the time had to remind myself that the boat is still back there.? I have also trailered the boat short distances, and was very conscious of? its presence, for it would begin to wag at 50 mph.? What's the difference?? Whether single axle or double axle, the difference is correct tongue weight, or ideal positioning of the boat on the trailer.
?
With regard to camping, you do not have to worry about the boat tipping with the double axle trailer, with the single axle you have to remember to support the ends to ensure it does not tip when boarding or leaving the boat, once it has been disconnected from the tow vehicle.? At, least , so I have been told.
?
One of the benefits of the mast crutch is that you can camp on the boat, move about in the cockpit without constantly bending to avoid hitting your head against the mast.
?

I am looking into buying a Rhodes 22.? I am relatively new to the list.
Can some of you who actually trailer your 22 give me some insight into
using the boat as a camper while en route to your sailing destination?

I have read some comments about finding the "sweet spot" on the single
axle trailer to have adequate tongue weight and avoid fishtailing of the
trailer.? In this regard do any of you have experience with an anti-sway
bar on your trailer.? I pull a Coleman tent trailer and have an anti-sway
bar on this trailer.? It seems to suppress fishtailing.? Any comments
regarding this and a Rhodes 22?

Rob,

Here is the wm # of my ladder WM#5497144 Manuf pt# 7146s

It mounts on the outside of the tramsom and is removable for storage under
the seats or in the laz. All mounting Hdw. was included and it supports me
fine.
