[Rhodes22-list] Sail removal

Rick:

It is easy enough for me to remove the batteries and store them in a heated space at home away from the cold and freezing temperatures. I have a trickle charger for my vespa scooter. Do you think this is adequate to top off the batteries or should I have a more substantial charger?

Chris,

It will be too cold for your solar panels to charge your battery. In fact,
they will try to draw power from the battery. So if you do leave the
battery aboard, be sure it is disconnected in case your diode or anything
else causes a fault.

Another thing, if you have a deep cycle battery, be sure to use a deep cycle
charger to fully charge the battery before winter storage. With a regular
charger, it could freeze and crack.
