[Rhodes22-list] Looking for help on a hull to deck joint leak.

I have a 1984 Rhodes that has developed a leak in the hull to deck  
joint.  I get water in the V-Berth in heavy seas when water splashes  
up under the rub rail.  Can this be solved by simply caulking  
underneath and behind the rub rail or do I need to deconstruct the  
joint to get an adequate seal?  Any advise would be greatly appreciated
