John,
I had a similar problem. I removed the 16' section of rub rail and insert
and then removed the sealant from this section. I re-sealed the joint (Stan
was helpful in giving me proper sealant technique instructions) and replaced
the rub rail and insert and no longer have the leak. Hint: use maskng tape
on the hull below the line of sealant when re-sealing. I didn't and it was
a bear getting the excess sealant off. Good luck...
