It's been a long time since I read her book, but wasn't Tania Abei just 18
when she soloed around the world before GPS or sat-phones?  I'm sure most
don't have the skill and maturity for such a task, but I'm willing to
concede that there might be exceptional 16-year-olds out there that are
ready for such a journey.  But I'll also acknowledge that you might be
right.  I'm not around many teenagers -- my kids and fiends' kids are still
much younger, so I don't have a good sense of their strength or maturity.  I
know that if I had been in that position at that age I would have drowned
for sure.

By the way, you prompted me to check her blog yesterday.  Apparently, she
was caught in such a storm that her boat rolled completely.  There are some
pics on her site from before the storm came through.  I might have to go
back to following some of these blogs.

Please tell me you guys are just jerkin' my chain. You don't really think
it's OK to send a child to sea alone in a quest for...what?...some stupid
"record". Maybe we should stock her up with plenty of Mt. Gay? I have real
problems with our "celebrity" culture and this case just pushes my buttons
for some reason. Don't worry, I'll get over it as soon as the medicine kicks
in.
