[Rhodes22-list] Irene's past in Bklyn

My boat weathered the storm in her slip at Herrington Harbor North on the Chesapeake Bay with some extra spring lines and fenders that I put out on Friday. The wind was primarily from the North so the slip was well protected and the surge did not appear to be too high. Bailed out about a bucket full of water from the lazarett and bilge yesterday and no other issues. My house located just outside of Georgetown in DC is on a dead end street and a tree is laying across the road and power lines, no vehicular access and no power. Showers are getting pretty cold. I should have brought my solar showers back from the boat. I did stock up on block ice so at least my beer is cold.

Rhodies

My R22 Miracles made it through the storm ok thanks to adding a few
extra lines through the bow U bolt
and doubling up my stern lines.

The storm surge according to a reputable source came up an extra 5 ft
to the grass just below the cement which protects the street from
flooding.
see picture of docks back to normal only about 5 hrs past the high
tide.

On my way through the borough from Kensington to Mill Basin  I saw
about 8 downed trees many  blocking the way.  Only a few crushed cars
and  a few
power outages.

I took down my radar reflector and took in my tell tales & added an
extra wrap around the main sail cover as insurance.  We were
fortunate this was only  a
Tropical Storm -if a CAT 2 had hit we would've taken much more damage.

This is Mill Basin and many smarter sailors took refuge here from
more exposed slips and  moorings around the area over the course of
the storm.

safe sails
