Hello Rhodes Sailors
I just purchased a 1975 Rhodes (minutes ago).
I first sailed one about 4 years ago (maybe 5) when I charted Stan's for a
four day cruise in the Albemarle. LOVED the boat (and the cruise) but could
not afford a Rhodes of my own then. My wife still has pictures from that
trip as her screen shot on her computer. I was a member of this list for a
brief while then and you all helped me tremendously in planning my cruise.
Glad to be back as an owner now.
I've restored 4 badly neglected boats in the past and presently sail a
MacGregor V2-22. Similar (in performance only) to the Rhodes but not nearly
as well made.
I found this Rhodes last night while slumming around on the Annapolis Craigs
List site. It was listed for $250!!!!
I called the marina and it was not a miss print. It had been abandoned at
the marina with the hatch open so it got rain water in it. But for $250 I
DON'T CARE! I gave them a credit card number over the phone! I'm so happy.
The fee to lift it onto my trailer is another $250. So I nabbed a Rhodes
22' for $500.
HOT DAMN!
Even if I dump $10,000 bringing her to Bristol I'm way ahead.
Seems some kid bought it, sailed it one season and then abandoned it. The
marina is a power boat marina and didn't want anything to do with it and
wanted it gone. I was happy to oblige.
I'm told the main sail was new the year the kids sailed it and has been
stored in the main office of the marina...the genoa is probably the
original.
I contacted General Boats and I'm waiting to hear from them about their
recycled boat program.
I can't believe my luck.
Fair winds all!!
Rob
