Thanks for the input and visual on how the chainplate is attached. My boat has a history of a tree falling on it while the mast was down for trailering. The tree may have pushed that tang down. Bent the mast, busted the hatch, Cracked the glass around a winch otherwise no other apparent damage and should all be easy repairs. The nice thing about 6 shrouds is that the rig stays up if one comes out or breaks.
