[Rhodes22-list] Hake introduces IMF

I can't remember if I passed this on to the list or not. If so, forgive me.
Some Rhodies may recall that I was sorely tempted by Hake Yachts' Seaward 26RK. It really came down to a choice between the 26RK and the R22. The list was generous with advise and both the advice and that generosity sold me on the Rhodes. At one time Stan sold the 26RK or one of its predecessors, and there was a rumor he'd fitted one with the IMF. I talked to both Stan and Nick Hake ("Nick"--I think that's right) about it and both said it never happened. When I'd made my choice of boats I told Hake that the IMF was a major part of the decision.
I'd like to think mine was one of the voices that persuaded Hake to offer an IMF option--but on their 32RK, not the 26--or not yet! I got an announcement earlier this year.
I guess they're still trying to sell me a Seaward.

Sean,
I love the IMF and it's what drew me to the Rhodes also. My first Rhodes had standard main and hank on jib and I kept looking until I found the IMF and furling jib. My new boat has electric start and full electrical system. The electric start is real nice and I like the electric motor lift too. I've got a hand held radio which does just fine for my inland lake sailing. I would like a depth gauge and will add that next year. I have the linkage system but it's currently broken. The only time I would really use it is maneuvering in my slip area. I think your price range is reasonable, you just have to be diligent about the search, good boats at good prices are hard to find. - rob

Hi Rob,
Well, I'm trying to narrow down my list of must-have features. At this point, those would be the IMF main, since that's actually what drew me to the Rhodes in the first place. I figure I'll be single handing a lot, and the thought of trying to flake the main over the boom by myself was pretty unappealing. The second is a working electrical system, since I'll definitely want to have a radio on Lake Michigan. The motor mount and tiller linkage system would also be great, though I can live without that. As far as other features go, I'll take what I can get. My price range right now is $8000-$15000, though I'm not really planning to buy until after the first of the year, so that may change. Is that realistic at all?
-Sean

Sean,
Welcome aboard. Ah, a youngster among us. Some of us here have kids your age. What are you looking for, features and price wise in a Rhodes? - rob
